Just a day to go for the PLAB1 exam. Here’s what successful PLAB 1 takers recommend you expect and how to get ready.

Follow the Exam Centre Protocols

Candidates should arrive at least 30 to 45 minutes early. There will be a thorough ID check. So, bring your passport or the same ID you used for booking, confirmation emails, and GMC correspondence. Personal items are not allowed inside the PLAB exam hall including phones, bags, and even water bottles. Make sure you know the specific rules of your test centre in advance.

Remember the Structure and Pacing

The PLAB 1 exam has 180 Single Best Answer (SBA) questions to answer in 3 hours.

Candidates often note that the questions are based on scenarios, testing both knowledge and clinical reasoning. Expect topics from all major systems, ethics, and UK clinical practice rules.

Be strict with time Management

With the strict timing, you get about one minute per question, with probably no extra time for review. Past takers stress the need to be quick but careful. Managing your time is crucial. Don’t spend more than 60 seconds on any question. If you’re unsure, mark it and move on.

Environment and Stress Management

Many test-takers report that mental fatigue tends to hit around. This means that stamina on exam day is just as important as knowledge. During your preparation, practice taking the full-length test several times to build your endurance. This can help you cope with the exam day environment and bust your stress levels.

The PLAB 1 exam day is manageable if you’ve prepared realistically, not just academically but also strategically. Past candidates who treated the exam like a marathon, with a steady, paced, and disciplined approach tended to perform the best. The important thing is to stay calm and trust your preparation and yourself.

Let exam day be the day you show your readiness, not your anxiety.
